Mezes Greek Taverna, About Us.
The Teitlers are raving about Mezes Greek Taverna, an 'absolutely fabulous' Greek place in Pembroke Pines. 'This is the best Greek restaurant we've ever been to,' says Robert, above, at the table with wife Marlene and 16-year-old son Evan (wearing a 'Kiss Me I'm Greek' shirt), with owner Savas Karagiaouris and his wife Maria paying a visit. This is no idle boasting. Marlene's grandmother is Greek and the family 'loves Greek food.' Mezes, which means small plates, has 'great food and the service is always excellent; there are big crowds on weekends,' says Robert, a lawyer. The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating and a beer and a wine bar. Robert recommends the lemon chicken; Marlene, a teacher, likes the stuffed peppers; and Evan is a fan of chicken souvlaki. 'We usually start with the tzatziki (a creamy yogurt spread), stuffed grape leaves and spanakopita (a phyllo spinach pie).' But they've added a few new favorites: grilled octopus, lamb chops and mussels saganaki (steamed with tomatoes, scallions, feta, garlic butter and white wine). 'They're fabulous.'
